Apprentice Chef

An entry point into a scratch kitchen. Not a line cook position - more is required.

$13 to $17 an hour
10am - 9pm
Full time
September 28, 2026
Apply

Orange Taco is a scratch kitchen. Nothing comes pre-made. Everything on the line was prepared here, by hand, to exact specification. The tortillas are pressed by hand every morning. The sauces are built from base. The brisket goes in fourteen hours before service. That is the standard you are walking into.

As an Apprentice Chef you support critical kitchen operations during your shift - prep, cleaning, inventory, order fulfillment, guest interaction. Every task is executed to standard, whether or not anyone is watching.

This is an entry point, not a holding position. It is not a line cook position. More is required. Apprentice Chefs who show the right instincts, work ethic and cultural fit advance to Commis Chef with expanded responsibilities and competitive compensation. Advancement is based on demonstrated performance, not time served.

What did you cook last weekend, and why

Specific beats impressive. This is the part we read first.

Where have you cooked, and for how long

Resume

PDF or Word, up to 5 MB. What you cooked last weekend still counts for more.

Max file size 10MB.

When can you work

Pick every one that works. We build the schedule around the people, not the other way round.

Certifications you hold

Pick any that apply. None of them is required to apply. A food handler card is needed within 30 days of starting, and we will help you get it.

Do you have restaurant experience

We are not screening on years. We ask so the phone screen starts in the right place.

Tasting nights run late, two Fridays a month

A no does not cost you the role. It changes which station you start on.

How would you get here

We are downtown at Houston Center. This tells us what to explain before your trial shift.

How soon could you start

An honest answer helps more than an eager one. We plan around it either way.
