Fourteen minutes

That is the average uninterrupted American lunch. Take the hour, sit at a table, and order for the mood you are in.

A woman holds a finger to her lips, her eyes covered by torn paper that reads blah, blah, blah.

Even at companies that allow a lunch break, the average American worker gets just fourteen uninterrupted minutes of it, according to a May survey of 2,000 workers. Email, meetings and screens claim the rest.

Three in four knowledge workers regularly eat at their desks while working, a Morning Consult poll found. Talker Research found that workers spend, on average, 61% of their lunch break on a phone or laptop. Lunch didn’t disappear all at once. It slipped away, one interrupted pause at a time.

A lunch spent reading email is a lunch you barely taste. The first bite, the layers of flavor, the heat, the bright finish - all pass without your attention. Fourteen minutes with one hand on a keyboard is not rest. It is work with a fork.

The guilt is learned. In the Talker survey, 91% of workers called a lunch break essential, and 63% said they think more of a colleague who takes a real one. More of you, not less. The break was never the problem. Skipping it had become the norm.

You can change that. Put lunch on the calendar. Then let it be lunch.

We cook from scratch because we believe self-care doesn’t need permission. You don’t have to finish everything before you sit down to something good. Order for the mood you’re in. Put it on a plate.

First visit? The Orange Taco. Sweet orange leads, a bright pickle cuts through the richness, and orange zest leaves a lasting impression.

Feeling fancy? The Fancy Chicken. Basil aioli and buttermilk ranch bring richness; crisp radish, microgreens and dill keep it fresh. Lemon zest adds a bright finish, with almost no heat.

Craving comfort? The Buffalo Ranch. Familiar Buffalo heat, mellowed by house ranch, over fried rice. The comfort you know, made from scratch.

Fourteen minutes is what lunch has become. An hour is worth making room for.

Take it. Sit at a table. Taste the first bite before you answer anything.

Order online and take 10% off your first order. That part’s on us.
